In Norse mythology, the einherjar (Old Norse literally "those who fight alone") are those who have died in battle and are brought to Valhalla by valkyries. In Valhalla, the einherjar eat their fill of the nightly-resurrecting beast Sæhrímnir, and valkyries bring them mead (which comes from the udder of the goat Heiðrún). The einherjar prepare daily for the events of Ragnarök, when they will advance for an immense battle at the field of Vígríðr.
The einherjar are attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson, the poem Hákonarmál (by the 10th century skald Eyvindr skáldaspillir) as collected in Heimskringla, and a stanza of an anonymous 10th century poem commemorating the death of Eric Bloodaxe known as Eiríksmál as compiled in Fagrskinna.
An etymological connection exists between the einherjar and the Harii (a Germanic peoples or figures form early Germanic folklore attested in the 1st century AD), and scholars have connected the einherjar to the eternal battle of Hjaðningavíg and the Wild Hunt. The einherjar have been the subject of works of art and poetry.

"... Haa, haa. Oops, sorry for barging in. A very serious matter has occurred!"
"You know about the angels that have witnessed all over recently...?"
"Till now, they've been vanishing as soon as they've appeared, so we couldn't get a bead regarding the angel's intentions, but..."
"I'll cut to the chase, the angels have appeared in the 'Holy Forest' I've been watching over!!"
"At first, there were only a handful of angels, so I thought I could somehow manage to repel them with Reshia who was patrolling with me..."
"Then while we were doing that, we saw angels starting to land at the deepest ends of the forest. The ones we were fighting were probably a diversion."
"In the deepest ends of the 'Holy Forest' is a sacred place where the souls of countless great heroes, who left numerous legends throughout our long history, slumber..."
"Thinking that perhaps they were what the angels were after, I quickly went straight to the depths of the forest with Reshia, and then——"
"——What we found was 'something like a door' and there were angels hovering over it."
"Thinking I didn't have a moment to lose, I fired an arrow straight at them, but we were suddenly engulfed by a light shining from the door, and before we could make heads or tails of what happened, we were sent to a faraway place..."
"So, I thought I should quickly report to the Prince and I started running... Cause if my hunch isn't mistaken, then——"
"——That 'door-like thing' may be 'Divine Beast Einherjar' who has been passed down among us keepers...!!"
"In the legends, 'Divine Beast Einherjar' used to take the forms of the great heroes that lost their lives during battle long ago."
"A veteran mercenary that carried twin blades. A knight who surpassed skill arts to penetrate all. All sorts of heroes from the legends were given life to roam the world again——"
"——But the heroes that used their power to protect the people were instead brandishing it to destroy humanity..."
"And in the times those heroes are revived in their twisted forms is the being known as 'Divine Beast Einherjar' with the angels by its side..."
"The shift that happened due to the light emitted from that door, now that I think about it, I'm positive that's the 'Lord's Authority' common among Divine Beasts!"
"Right now, Reshia is buying us time, but I don't think we have a moment to lose."
"I beg of you, Prince, lend me your strength! I want to protect the peaceful rest of the heroes slumbering in the 'Holy Forest'...!!"
50px Angel: "By capturing the souls of the heroes slumbering in this forest, it seems Divine Beast Einherjar has also regained most of its power."
Angel: "You've done well to guard the heroic souls for this moment, mortal child."
50px Angel: "Hm, it doesn't matter. We still haven't captured the souls of the strong heroes said to slumber in this land, but..."
Angel: "The number of clones created through Einherjar's power has become quite numerous... They should be enough to purge you alone."
Angel: "It would've been best if you fled as you were when you were transferred afar by the Lord's Authority. However, even then, you persisted in your rebellion——"
50px Angel: "Hoh, the mortal children have formed a gang... How pitiful..."
Reshia: "It has captured the heroic souls slumbering in the forest and is creating clones that mimic the forms and abilities of the past heroes... There's too many to count."
Reshia: "Yeah... Besides that one, I've confirmed there's a great armoured soldier wielding a giant axe, an archer with a strong arm capable of firing 3 consecutive shots, a spearman who can easily pierce any armour, and a healer that can heal their wounded."
Reshia: "And it looks like it has the power to control the heroic souls that have been slumbering and employ them in the shape of spirits. Such an unpardonable blasphemy, damn them...!!"
50px Angel: "Finished talking? Whatever strategy you conceive will be meaningless before Divine Beast Einherjar."
Angel: "Now then, let's purge them all. Einherjar, destroy the impure humans!"
(short time passes)
Reshia: "If it's this, I don't feel like I'm going to lose. Prince, let's push back the angels and Einherjar along with the heroic souls...!!"
50px Angel: "... Divine Beast Einherjar has been destroyed? It's inconceivable for humans to be a match for Einherjar. Looks like we have no choice but to retreat..."
"By the way, will you let me see the weapons from before? Actually, there's something curious about them."
"When you touched the weapons, you said you heard someone's voice, right Prince?"
"The owner of that voice I believe are the heroes of the past that lent their power back then."
"The heroic souls that were drawn out from the grave markers by the power of Einherjar might have lent you their own weapons."
"And the hero, the only one their voices reached was just the Prince..."
"Actually, this is in keeping with the legends of Einherjar. The story passed down among only us keepers."
"The hero that was chosen by the heroic souls, a story to repel evil alongside the heroic souls of old. I thought it was merely a story made up when I was little, but..."
"We traded blades with Einherjar. Since that happened, I'll confirm whether the rest of the story is true."
"I'm sure the heroic souls have acknowledged the Prince as the hero."
"The power of the great heroic souls will be a mighty tail wind in the Prince's battles. If it's you, I'm sure you'll handle their power properly."
"If the Prince goes out to the battlefield with those weapons, then you may be able to borrow part of the power of those warriors on the battlefield once again."
"When you wish to go to the battlefield with the heroic souls' weapons, then change your title to 'Releaser of the Heroic Souls' [英魂の解放者]."
"——So, considering the heroic qualities of the Prince, perhaps that legend is also true..."
"On the other hand, it could just be a fairy tale that the heroic souls will reveal themselves and stand besides the hero of the current generate to lend their strength."
"Now then, I'll return to the Holy Forest. Prince, I'll be counting on you in the future."
