"Excuse me, Prince." A lively voice echoes through the room. In walks Sanosuke, back straight and head held high. He holds his glass in both hands and stares at the wine. He still seems nervous around you. You ask him about the monsters' recent movements. "...and that concludes my report. But please don't worry, we will defend you without fail, my lord! If I fail to carry out my mission, I will atone for that with my life!" Spoken like a true samurai, to be sure, but men like him all seem to have an incredibly strong sense of responsibility. Was he being too hard on himself? Either way, hearing words like this from such a young man is troubling. "To a samurai, failing to carry out one's mission is considered disgraceful. It's tantamount to damaging the honor of the master, as it were." You quietly listen to his clear and confident declaration. "I will faithfully devote myself to my daily training so that never happens!" Sanosuke's eyes are filled with determination. He was no doubt taught that this was the natural way of things, but you find yourself unable to respond directly.

"That concludes today's report!" Sanosuke has loosened up quite a bit since the early days. Even as you listen to his report, you still have the last conversation with him in the back of your mind. You think about how those like Sanosuke have similar sensibilities, and you begin to talk to him about them. That comrades are important in this conflict. That this is not his hometown. And that, right now, he is in service to you. He was not allowed to die without your permission. Even if it is difficult to bear, you are to live on, you command him. "B-but...!!!" Hearing your words, Sanosuke gulps hard. Perhaps reading your expression, he opens his mouth to speak. "I am a samurai, and you are my lord. If that is your wish, I will obey it, and I will not fail you. No matter how difficult it may be, I will live on!" Sanosuke speaks in his usual clear tone. In place of a reply, you pour him a drink.
