Fudou #1
Fudou isn't usually the friendliest, but he always says yes without hesitation when you ask him to drink with you. "I'm a corrupt priest. I rejected worldly things once, but here I am, helping you and the others, Master." "But... I can't quit drinking. This stuff is like the elixir of life! Hah! Hah!" Fudou really seems to be enjoying his drink. And, unlike most people from the East, he enjoys beer and wine. "If you want to know this humble priest's opinion, all alcohol is a treasure!" "They may have different tastes, but they're all made with people's blood, sweat, and tears. You've gotta appreciate a good drink!" "My Prince, have I told you why spirits made from fruit are so bitter? Why do you think that is?" Once he gets going, Fudou always teaches you alcohol trivia. He's quite knowledgeable. You have to wonder what kind of life he's lived. He's a great storyteller, and you can't help but listen attentively. That's why you're always inviting the Buddhist priest to drink, but... "Whoops, the drink is telling me this evening is drawing to a close." He always says that when he finds the bottle he's been pouring his drinks from is empty. Fudou drinks like a fish, but oddly enough, it's always easy fro him to quickly call it a night. "Moderation in everything. Nothing should ever be taken too far. They say nothing destroys a man faster than too much pleasure." You wonder if he's saying that because he's experienced a loss. You try asking him, but Fudou just laughs. "Hmm, if you think that about me... It must be because it's true for you." His words cut deep. You suppose that's probably because he's right. "Let's talk about that the next chance we get. If you remember, we can discuss it over drinks." Fudou says, promising you that before he leaves. Can he tell it's the kind of thing you need a few drinks to talk about? Or, perhaps, he was simply defecting attention from himself. You still didn't know.

Fudou's hitting the alcohol hard again today. You're doing a pretty good job of keeping up as well. However, for some reason, you don't feel at all drunk. It must be because a part of your brain is still focused on what Fudou told you last time. "Hmph. If there's something you want to get off your chest. I'll listen." Fudou says, speaking like he knows exactly what you're thinking. You were hesitant at first, but it eventually feels natural for you to open up. You've been fighting monsters for all of this time, and many lives have been lost. You tell Fudou about the guilt you carry. You also tell him about your fear that more lives will be lost in the future. And you discuss your worry that victory will never come. The alcohol must have given you courage. It was strangely easy for you to talk about things you would never normally discuss. When you finish, you're, unsurprisingly, embarrassed. You're the Prince, is it ok for you to have these insecurities? "No worries, no worries. It's human nature to feel uncertain." Fudou says, laughing off you worries. "At any rate, there's not much people can do. They just struggle within their own little worlds." "Struggle as you like, for life in nothing but suffering. All worldly things are transitory... Everything is futile. What happens happens." "That's why I don't give pompous sermons. You should do as you please, Master." "Now come, the alcohol will wash away all this talk." You fill both his cup and your own to the brim, and, without waiting for Fudou, take a big swig. Thinking to yourself that Fudou is right, you smile wryly and gulp down your drink. In the end, you're not able to get any advice from Fudou. However, Fudou stays with you longer than usual, and the two of you enjoy a night of heavy drinking.
