"I don't feel like drinking with someone I don't know. Get somebody else." At that, Mortimer turns on his heels to leave. Right now I'm your master, you tell him, and his face grows even more annoyed. It may have been a harsh thing to say, but it was the only way to get him to hear you out. Mortimer lumbers over and sits down with a thud. "I'm head of the bandits. I'd never serve under somebody else. You said ya wanted to talk about the monsters, so..." "What a pain I've gotten mixed up with." Mortimer grumbles on, perhaps regretting having joined up. Still, his abilities are indispensable to you. You were enemies at first, but you are now allied in exterminating the monsters. It's true that you wanted to talk to him about the monsters, so you broach the subject. "From what I've seen, they're getting stronger 'n stronger. On top o' that, a lot of 'em have grown extremely knowledgeable. We can't take 'em lightly." Mortimer finishes talking and once again gulps down his drink. "And the number o' races fighting is on the rise too. It's just a matter o' time a'fore the battles get fiercer." He certainly seems to have a leader's powers of observation. He sees the enemy calmly and cooly. You then discuss with him the future movements of the enemy. "Well well, I guess you're not just some kid eh. You have a good eye. I agree with yer view on this." Now that you think of it, you hadn't talked to him about this before. Perhaps letting his guard down a bit, he begins discussing other monsters as well. |

"No, with those monsters, we should do this, eh??" After that you had many more chances to exchange opinions. His tone hasn't changed, but the information he provides is very useful. "What? If I had to I could take on these monsters by myself!" That was the first thing he said when the bandits joined you. Perhaps still feeling that way, in the midst of battle he's been known to thrust himself into enemy lines alone. "As the leader I gotta pull together my forces. I can't afford to shown 'em any weakness." This is the first time he has ever talked about himself. Until now you only ever discussed enemy information, so you are a little surprised. Perhaps realizing this himself, he lets out a little smile. "Well, as long as I've joined forces with you, I'll give my all. But the instant those monsters are done in, we're enemies again. Be prepared for that." They are, after all, bandits. Perhaps it's natural that after something ends they should return to their original situation. In any case, rather than dwell on the future, you choose to revel in this moment. |
