In certain missions, various terrain effects, which influence the behaviour of either allied units, enemies, or both, can be present. They are distinct from weather-based effects (e.g. blizzards, which decrease enemies and allies range among other things), and can be mitigated by using special classes such as Feng Shui Users. Unlike weather effects, some classes such as Beast Tamers, are only completely immune to a certain type of terrain and their negative effects. In addition there are currently no units that can benefit from terrain effects outside of a few specific missions (e.g. Depths of Makai).
Below are a list of the various terrain effects observed in Aigis so far.
Poisonous Swamp[]
The Poisonous Swamp is a group of maps that all Aigis players will have experienced on several occasions as they are the basis for several missions of every type except Story Missions. Their unique trait is HP degeneration via the vaporous poison from the swamp.
In the Poisonous Swamp terrain, all allies are affected as follows:
- Allied units receive continuous damage (HP degeneration)
- Certain allied units are unaffected by the poison.
It should also be noted that depending on the map, HP degeneration can range from:
- Poison: Continuous damage to HP (-5HP/0.5s)
- Notable example: Toxic Swamp
- Deadly Poison: Continuous damage to HP (-10HP/0.5s)
- Notable example: Noxious Fog
- Very Deadly Poison: Continuous damage to HP (-20HP/.05s)
- Notable example: Golden Armor X
Magma Cavern[]
The Magma Cavern, like the Poisonous Swamp, is a group of maps where all allied units will continuously lose HP. Unlike the Poisonous Swamp, the Magma Cavern maps only appear in events, one of the most notable instances belonging to The Summoned Beast Sleeping in the Earth where the maps first appeared. Their unique feature is HP degeneration from the intense heat of the magma bubbling all over.
In the Magma Cavern terrain, all allies are affected as follows:
- Allied units receive continuous damage (HP degeneration)
- Certain allied units are unaffected by the intense heat.
It should also be noted that depending on the map, HP degeneration can range from:
- Constant HP Degeneration: Small (-5HP/.05s)
- Notable example: Flame Beast from The Summoned Beast Sleeping in the Earth.
- Constant HP Degeneration: Large (-10HP/.05s)
- Notable example: Raging Flames from The Priest Warrior and the Great Mithril Soldier.
- Constant HP Degeneration: Extreme (-20HP/.05s)
- Notable example: Fiery Blood Training from Gold Rush 7.
The Desert[]
The Desert is a group of maps that feature one of the more annoying terrain effects out there, Initial HP Reduction, with the in-game reason being that your units are exhausted from being out under the desert sun. These maps primarily appear in the Desert Arc story missions, but have appeared in several events as well, resulting in it being one of the largest map groups in Aigis. The most notable example belongs to Swordswoman of the Boiling Sands which was the event that first featured the Desert and led to the Desert Arc story missions being added.
In the Desert terrain, all allies are affected as follows:
- Allied units start out with reduced health (initial HP reduction).
- Certain allied units are unaffected by the intense heat.
It should also be noted that depending on the map, the initial HP reduction can range from:
- Initial HP reduction: Small (-20% HP on placement)
- Notable example: Desert Battle
- Initial HP reduction: Medium (-50% HP on placement)
- Notable example: Battle in the Scorching Desert G, a mission from Swordswoman of the Boiling Sands
- Initial HP reduction: Large (-80% HP on placement)
- Notable example: Base Scramble II
- Initial HP reduction: Extreme (-95% HP on placement)
- Notable example: Fiery Oasis 4★ Mission
